Rida was eight when she climbed atop a table at her house in Bajaur to use it as a vantage
point while playing with other children. This was when she accidentally touched some
uninsulated electric wires hanging from the wall. The burns from the electrocution were so bad
that the child’s right arm had to be amputated from the elbow.
The accident was earth-shattering for her parents as well; they knew that the loss of a limb
would greatly limit their child’s prospects in life. The girl has been maimed and handicapped for
life.
